Review of Pol Mac Adaim New Cd ( IF WE DON'T HELP THEM NOW) A short time ago a stack of new cds arrived on my desk for the most part they were the usual suspects "Irelands Finest Whatever", " A host of Irish This That, or the Other" and so on . Some times as a presenter I can get sick of the same old same old. In the middle of this bunch was a black and white cover (which is unusual) it was Pol Mac Adaim's New Cd (IF WE DON'T HELP THEM NOW). Having heard the first track a set of jigs by Pat Martin, I was getting interested. Then the title track "If We Don't Help them Now", I was hooked in. This is a true voice, a real voice and a protest voice something we have been missing for some time in Folk Music. Pol's Belfast brogue shines through which adds to his protest voice. We live in an age of record companies deciding what we should listen to and what writers should write. Pol Mac Adaim has taken this power back and says it as it is . He pulls no punches in Songs like "Bigots Scaring Children" and in " I don't Know" and rightly so, it's about time we stopped all this "Celtic Tiger Shit" and started being real . I have no hesitation in recommending this cd as it will wake you up and start you thinking. After all, that is exactly what folk songs are about.
