January 2006: review of Sine é live radio interview on Tuesday january 3rd 2006.

Here’s the question I ask my self some times… WHY DO I DO THIS ?.

Newbridge Co Kildare 7pm , Load up the car with cds and folders and the like another Sin E radio programme. At 9pm we go live programme number 374. Some great show’s come to mind as I drive the Naas road The Christy Moore , John Spillane, Luka Bloom , Black 47 and Pol Mac Adaim shows. Tonight we go for another great show (hopefully!) Pol Mac Adiam joins me in the studio live. My experience tells me when Pol sits in the hot seat the programme takes on a life of its own. At 8pm I get a call in his best Belfast accent “how ye doin Mick” . We meet up at the Red Cow hotel car park. Pol meets me with a big smile and a hug . I’m always a bit on edge when I am looking forward to a good programme. We travel in my car to the station. We chat is about music songs and politics. We get to the studio and I can feel it, its going to be good , Pol is up for it.
At 9pm I start the show at 9.10pm we go live his first song is a song called ‘I don’t know’. We move through the show talking about protest singing, socialism, republicanism and workers rights etc. Half way during the show Pol sang his own song about Rachel Corrie my eye filled up and my heart stopped. I got the same feeling as I got about 20 years ago when I first heard “No Time For Love”, By Moving Hearts . The Studio feeling changed and some thing happened as I have felt on the air on a few shows before . Its like the listeners and the air waves became one we all became one. This is a very great gift to have make no mistake about it most singers Do Not have this, Pol Mac Adaim has it in bucket loads. I love this mans singing his song writing and his conviction.
After the show I was drained as we drew on all the emotions available to us , I drop Pol back to the Red Cow which should be renamed the Red Flag after this man parked his car there. We said good bye , with my question answered , I know why I Do this

Thanks Pol.

Many have been murdered or tortured by members of the Spanish police during the on going conflict there. For pictures and more details check out the Gallery section of the site.

29th July 2004:Europe Tour 2004. Sweden: Mullsjo Irish Music festival.

In the Mid Summer sun I shared the bill with great musicians and dancers from around the world. There were several dance troupes from Louth, Denmark and Sweden. Among the other acts on the bill were names like Davy Spillane, Kevin Burke, Gerry O'Connor, Ash Plant, Christy O'Leary and Bert Deivert, The Moya Brennan Band and The Eimear Quinn Band. Attendance was lower than expected, but the audience were warm and quite wonderful. I'd like to thank everyone who attended for the warm welcome they gave me on my first visit to Sweden. 27th July 2004:Review of Pól Mac Adaim's CD 'Internationale'

This latest offering from Belfast born Protest singer Pól Mac Adiam, has not in any way disapointed this listener. It's a cd of workers songs, a cause that was very much brought to the fore in the late sixties and early seventies by non other than Luke Kelly and the great Ewan Mc coll. I feel Pol's approach is the right one he has stripped it down as only real protest singers can , its the real deal, I loved his version of Joe Hill. Pól Mac Adaim we tip our hats to you as you keep the red flag flying.

1st July 2004: International Irish Dance Magazine Review

International Irish dance magazine review Pól's debut album 'If we don't help them now'July 2004.

Pól is a Belfastman in his early 30s and this is his debut CD. He's a bright young spark, brought up in a troubled city and much of his music and song reflects his selfless care for righting wrongs. He's outspoken and uses his talent very powerfully to articulate his view of injustices carried out all over the world. That said, he is extraordinarily multi talented and can play a bewildering range of instruments. In fact, it's easier to say there's almost no instrument in trad Irish music Pól cannot play - he must be a delight to watch in concert.

His Strong Northern dialect comes through in song and he has a very pleasant voice. Pól is a good uilleann piper too, but defers to fellow irishman, Patrick Martin to play that most demanding of instruments.

A short debut CD at only 32 minutes and 8 tracks, but a testimony to Pól's capabilities and there's no doubt we shall be hearing a lot more of this young Northerner in time to come. The world is ready for a young Paul Brady and here he is - welcome Pól Mac Adaim, - 'lovely hurlin by'.

March: ‘Tine’, I host a Radio show for Féile FM in Belfast.

I put together a show for Féile FM called 'Tine'. The subjects in the show cover protest music, protest singer/song writers and situations from around the word that provokes protest singer song writers to write the songs they do. I cover the life of Jim Connel, the man behind the song 'The Red flag'. I also cover the Dublin lock out, the 1916 rising, the October revolution in Russia 1917.

This has lead to a series of show that I will compile to be aired in Belfast this coming Summer.
